Salou's commitment to innovation and digitization in the tourism and entertainment sector takes another step forward this autumn with the creation of the Salou Digital Hub, an initiative to promote an entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem that wants to be a benchmark in Catalonia and Spain.
To this end, the
Salou City Council and the company
Startsud Studio have teamed up to develop the two main objectives of the Salou Digital Hub:
- Promote start-ups through support and financing
- Attract digital nomads
To achieve the first objective, the following calendar has been foreseen:
- In October 2021: first call for the Salou Startup Weekend and selection of projects
- November 2021: Salou Startup Weekend celebration
- In December 2021: boost to new start-ups, which will receive support and funding
On the other hand, in December it is also planned to present the Salou Digital Nomads project, which aims to position Salou as an attractive destination to attract so-called digital nomads, that is, professionals who seek to telework, for weeks or months, from destinations that offer them a attractive offer of leisure and entertainment. This is possible if the capital of the Costa Dorada is equipped with the necessary services to accommodate a part of these visitors, which would increase demand and favor seasonal adjustment.
In the presentation of the Salou Digital Hub, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, said that "Salou is a leading tourist destination in Catalonia, although now, with digitization, we also want to be an entrepreneurial engine". For his part, the Councilor for Economic Dynamization, Hèctor Maiquez, explained that "we are convinced that Salou has the ideal conditions to position itself as the reference location for those start-ups that develop their activity in the field of tourism and entertainment" .
The co-founder and CEO of Startsud Studio, Marc Arza, in his turn to speak, has stated that "Salou is a municipality that, beyond welcoming tourists, has a strong point, which is that many of the large companies -hotels, resorts, agencies, etc. - in the sector are locally owned ", with which to create a relationship space that allows generating business ideas that should help attract talent and promote new start-ups.
